In OneSight, a Listening Topic is an automated query logic composed of keywords, filters, and rules designed to continuously monitor specific topics across social media and online platforms. By properly configuring these topics, you can focus on your brand, products, competitors, or industry trends to gain precise user insights.

1. Accessing Social Listening

Log in to the OneSight platform:

  • Click the main menu item Social Listening on the left sidebar.

  • Then click Topics in the secondary left menu.

  • Finally, click the + Add New Topic button on the right side.

2. Setting Topic Information

Provide the basic details for the topic:

  • Topic Name: Give the topic a clear and descriptive name (e.g., “Apple Vision Pro Launch Feedback”) to facilitate future filtering and searching.

  • Topic Tags (optional): Use tags to categorize multiple topics, making it easier to search, analyze, and manage them later.

3. Defining Data Source (Core)

Select the platforms you want to monitor, such as Facebook, X, Instagram, etc. For detailed platform coverage information, please refer to the relevant documentation "Which Platforms and Historical Data Are Supported in Social Listening?".

4. Setting a Query (Core)

OneSight offers two modes for setting keyword queries:

Standard Mode

  • Simply set the included keywords and excluded keywords. This mode is suitable for most queries.

Advanced Mode

Keyword configuration is key to social listening topics. Here are some recommended approaches:

✅ Be clear about what you want to listen for:

  • Your brand name or abbreviation (e.g., "Nike", "耐克")

  • Social media account names and hashtags (e.g., @nike, #JustDoIt)

  • Specific product names or series (e.g., Galaxy S24, AirPods Pro)

  • Competitor brand or product terms (e.g., "Adidas Ultraboost")

  • Industry terminology and trending topics (e.g., "generative AI", "carbon neutrality")

  • Key individuals' names (e.g., CEO, founder, spokesperson)

❌ Avoid overly broad queries:

  • Avoid using single generic words alone (e.g., "phone", "AI")

  • Use advanced query syntax to precisely combine keywords and improve match accuracy:

For Example:

("iPhone 15" OR "iPhoneXV") AND ("review" NEAR/5 "battery") NOT "accessory"

5. Preview and Save

Use the data preview on the right to continuously optimize and adjust your keyword query settings.

After clicking Save and update topic , the system will complete the first round of data collection within a few minutes and automatically backfill historical data for the past 28 days. Afterwards, data will be updated continuously according to the platform’s set update frequency (refer to Which Platforms and Historical Data Are Supported in Social Listening? documentation for details).
